Job Title: Operations Manager

 

Reporting to:  Production Director

 

Job Purpose: Responsible for driving operational excellence through people management, process control measured ultimately by agreed core metrics that includes safe environment and product quality. The focus will be on motivating and developing individuals to work as a team. The successful candidate must demonstrate the understanding the value of a pro-active approach to food safety liaising very closely with Technical and Quality teams. This is a leadership role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the production of high-quality products that meet specifications and expectations of the customer.
  • Operate the site to the most efficient way possible to engage our people, decrease cost and increase revenues.
  • Self-driven leader who has the desire to develop themselves and their team to move to the next level
  • Read and analyze charts, work orders, production schedules, and other records/reports to determine production requirements and to evaluate current production estimates and outputs. Would this be to work alongside planning department to ensure effective line utilization and production schedules
  • Confer with Business Unit (BU) Managers to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments.
  • Maintains a safe, secure, and legal work environment; by adhering to Company policies and procedures
  • Accomplishes staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; developing, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
  • Identify and fulfill training requirements for the BU.
  • Establishes strategic goals by analyzing pertinent business, financial, service, and operations information; identifying and evaluating trends and options; choosing a course of action; defining objectives; evaluating outcomes.
  • Ability to lead complex projects and to develop their own team to lead projects
  • Accomplishes financial objectives by supporting the production supervisors in forecasting requirements; preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices.
  • Work with HR management to ensure effective communication and engagement, resolve employee problems, complaints, or grievances
  • Developing and managing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all processes/tasks undertaken by employees
  • Controlling, re-using and costing non confirming production and eliminating causes of non-conformance
  • Conduct relevant team briefings
  • Participate in HACCP and ensure implementation of control measures

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Skills/ Experience

 

  • Experience in manufacturing in a high volume FMCG environment
  • Previous Operations Management experience preferably gained within the food industry
  • IT literate with good knowledge of excel
  • A working knowledge of Key Performance Indicators and Lean tools
  • Proven ability to develop high performing teams and build positive relationships both up and down within the organisation
  • Ability to use initiative
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • A passion for driving operational business change.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective leadership and people management techniques
  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to lead projects from idea stage to implementation.
  • A Lean qualification would be advantageous.
  • Ability to analyse data and get the root cause of a problem
