Job Title:              Transport Manager                                                        

Site Reporting Line:  Site Operations Manager

Functional Reporting Line:  N/A

Location:              Kepak McIntosh Donald, Portlethen   

Job Purpose:  Responsible for efficient and cost-effective planning, organisation, and control of the day-to-day transport for products from the site to our customers nationally and internationally, in line with business KPI’s.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take the lead role in planning, costing, and controlling third party vehicles ensuring sufficient flexibility is in place to meet the varying and changing needs of the division/site and customers, delivering in line with business KPI’s
  • Management of site transport requirements:
    • In-bound: Supplier to site
    • Inter-Site: Site to storage locations
    • Intra-Site: Site to Site
    • Outbound: Site to Customer
  • Effective cost management of third-party vehicles, ensuring efficient and effective use of services, optimisation of vehicle availability and leveraging Group/Division volume discounts
  • Working with Distribution Manager and other key stakeholders to ensure that all logistics and product distribution solutions are fully integrated and designed to improve customer service
  • Ensure cold chain and relevant legislative requirements are adhered to for each shipment/load
  • Ensure all relevant documentation is checked, issued, and maintained for each shipment/load
  • To take the lead in resolving issues and challenges as they arise, ensuring appropriate resolution and utilising the learning for future planning
  • Ensure that all in house vehicles are compliant with all legal, regulatory, and contractual requirements, and where necessary escalating any identified issues and recommending resolution to the Operations Manager
  • Ensure transport records are actively maintained to comply with legislative and audit requirements
  • Complete timely and accurate administration and record keeping for audit purposes
  • Develop, produce, and maintain reports on production and operations for daily/weekly/monthly KPI’s, including tonnage of distributed and delivered product
  • Maintain an excellent working knowledge of, and work proactively and in accordance with, all current and anticipated legislative requirements and best practice relevant to the food production transport industry
  • Implement, develop, and review department controls, processes, and procedures to manage all aspects of customer service, costs, and communication effectively and efficiently
  • Identify, develop, and drive continuous improvement projects and initiatives
  • Any other duties as required by management and within the competency of the post holder

Skills/ Experience

  • Experience working within a Food Production environment and/or cold chain supply preferred
  • Significant experience working in a Transport Manager or Senior Coordinator role essential
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and negotiating skills essential
  • Methodical, solution driven and pragmatic approach essential
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Capable of making sound business decisions quickly and while under pressure
  • Commitment to good practice
  • Communicates well in written and oral form with multi-nationals on all levels
  • Ability to multitask and work under own initiative to deliver to deadlines
  • Relationship builder with influencing skills
  • Good IT skills (specifically MS Office package)
